Gulets
The classic Gulet, best known for its rounded aft,
low profile in the water, and roomy hull, was once used by fishermen and sponge
divers to transport their catch. Today, the gulet is associated primarily with charter tours.
Various designs have emerged, all of which come from the classic description of the traditional
Turkish Gulet. For example, the original design had a rounded aft, but as this design limits
the numbers of cabins which can be built on the boat modifications have been made.
The 'ayna kic' (flat backed) style of the Gulet is becoming increasingly popular as a charter vessel.
As traditionally, the Gulet is handcrafted by master boat builders in Bodrum and Marmaris .
The major advantage of this boat design is that it allows passengers plenty of
space on deck and below. Gulet cabins are very popular as they are roomy and provide
adequate space for storage. They are all about the same size and each one has
either a double berth or a set of bunk-berths. Every cabin has a wardrobe for
hanging clothes and a number a drawers. There is also room for storing bags
and bulky items. Most cabins have their own ensuite bathroom with either a
shower hose attached to the basin, or a complete shower. Living areas on the Gulet
consist of a salon (some have a closeable aft area instead), a deck area for dining,
and an aft deck area for lounging in the shade of an awning, and a forward deck area
with numerous sun beds which can be shaded with a canopy when the yacht is not sailing.
All yachts are equipped for safety as well as for convenience. They have VHF radios, flares,
flags, first-aid kits, life jackets, extra sails, ropes, a small motor boat, and other
safety equipment. For your pleasure and convenience many of the newer vessels have a stereo
radio and/or cassette player, cellular phone, T.V., video player, and CD player.
A yacht's galley
is always well equipped and the cook takes pride in creating tempting dishes of Turkish
and international origins. Upon request, we can offer you a 'preference sheet' where you
may list what types of food you like to eat, whether you have food allergies or any other
special dietary requirements. The cook will try to meet your needs as far as possible.
Just as you can let the cook know what your special food interests are, you can let the
captain know what your interests are ashore when you meet him. His expert advice will
enable you to invent the perfect itinerary with all the right ingredients.
The electricity on most yachts runs at 12 v/24 v. Please consider this if you wish to
bring battery-operated or electric shavers, video players, PC's etc. You are welcome
to bring electrical items but make sure you have a conversation with your captain about
the safety of it's operation on board.... and the best way to dry your hair in these parts
is under the sun!

Useful informations
Passport - Visa: While planning your trip to Turkey do not forget
to check your passport if it is valid for at least 3 months. Depending on your nationality
most probably your stay as a tourist is limited up to 3 months (for one entrance).
Water: Although it is safe to drink tap water, it is recommended to buy bottled water for drinking
which can be found almost at store, that's because the city water is chlorinated for sanitation
reasons of which you mightn't like the smell. You can safely brush your teeth with tap water.
Time zone: Turkey's time zone is Eastern European Time ( +2 GMT ).
Language: Although you can find somebody in big cities and towns who speaks English,
but not at an advance level.
Telephones: To call Turkey, you have to
dial +90 before the area code. For example; If the telephone number is (212) 222 22 22 you dial +90
(212) 222 22 22. Public telephones have three different systems: Phone cards, tokens and credit cards.
Phone cards and tokens are sold at Turkish Telecom offices. Tokens are called "jeton" in Turkish. Phone
cards are in 3 different capacity. All over Turkey, phone numbers consist of two sections; area code
(3 digits) and the number itself (7 digits). During weekdays from 18:00 to 06:00 and on weekends calls
are cheaper.
Climate: Because of Turkey's geographical conditions, one can not speak about a general overall climate.
In Istanbul and around the sea of Marmara the climate is moderate ( winter 4 deg.C and summer 27 deg.C);
in winter the temperature can drop below zero. In Western Anatolia there is a mild Mediterranean
climate with average temperatures of 9 deg.C in winter and 29 deg.C in summer.
On the southern coast of Anatolia the same climate can be found. The climate of
the Anatolian plateau is a steppe climate (there is a great temperature difference
between day and night). Rainfall is low and there is more snow. The average temperature is
23 deg.C in summer and -2deg.C in winter. The climate in the Black Sea area is wet, warm and humid
(summer 23 deg.C, winter 7 deg.C). In Eastern Anatolia there is a long hard winter, where
year after year snow lies on the ground from November until the end of April (the average temperature
in winter is -13 deg.C and in summer 17 deg.C).
Cuisine: For those who travel engaged in culinary pursuits, the Turkish Cuisine
is a very curious one. The variety of dishes
that make up the Cuisine, the ways they all come together in feast-like meals,
and the evident intricacy of each craft offer enough material for life-long study and enjoyment.
It is not easy to discern a basic element or a single dominant feature, like the Italian "pasta" or
the French "sauce". Whether in a humble home, at a famous restaurant, or at a dinner in a Bey's mansion,
familiar patterns of this rich and diverse Cuisine are always present. It is a
rare art, which satisfies your senses while reconfirming the higher order of society;
community and culture.
Transportation: Taxis are going to get a site of their own at some point.
It's very simple really. Make sure the meter is working and zeroed before you go
anywhere. If that's the case then you'll be fine. There are 2 rates; Day Rate
and Night Rate. Day rate applies between 7:00 am and Midnight.
The Dolmus is an interesting way to travel. Very cheap and a great way to really
get to know people. They always have their destination written on the front and they'll
stop for you if there is any way of squeezing you in. Fares are posted, usually above
the drivers head, and you pass your money to the front. The change will also come back
hand to hand. Can be tricky if you've got a lot of luggage and tend to stop running
early evening.
Shopping: It is impossible to think of a holiday without the thrill of shopping.
Shopping in Turkey is irresistible for the wide range of unique and beautiful crafts
available there. Once you see the variety of products with this "very different" and unique
Turkish style, you will want to take some home to share with your friends and family.
In this article, we will give information and tips on shopping in Turkey.
Shopping in Turkey is both entertaining and satisfying. You gain in terms of experience
along with possessing some of the most prized items in the world. Therefore,
go prepared for big spends when you visit Turkey.
Tipping: It is customary to leave a tip in restaurants (10%), for hotel chambermaids,
in reception for hotel staff . Taxi drivers do not normally expect a tip, but
they do appreciate it, and it's acceptable to "round up" the fare. So if you're
charged 4.5YTL it's usual to give the driver 5YTL. Hairdressers also get tips, similar to the UK.

Turkish cuisine
A survey of the types of dishes according to their
ingredients may be helpful to explain the basic structure of Turkish cuisine. Otherwise
there may appear to be an overwhelming variety of dishes, each with a unique combination
of ingredients and its own way of preparation and presentation. All dishes
can be conveniently categorized: grain-based, grilled meats, vegetables, seafood,
desserts and beverages. Before describing each of these categories, some general
comments are necessary. The foundation of the cuisine is based on grains (rice and wheat)
and vegetables. Each category of dishes contains only one or two types of main ingreidients.
Turks are purists in their culinary taste, that is, the dishes are supposed to bring
out the flavor of the main ingredient rather than hiding it under sauces or spices.
Contrary to the prevalent Western impression of Turkish food, spices and herbs are used very
simply and sparingly.
The most well-known sweets associated with Turkish Cuisine are Turkish Delight ,
and "baklava", giving the impression that these may be the typical desserts eaten after meals .
This , of course , is not true . First of all , the family of desserts is much richer
than just these two. Secondly , these are not typical desserts served as part of main meal.
For example, baklava and its relatives are usually eaten with coffee , as a snack or after
a kebab dish. So, to further our education in Turkish cuisine we will survey the
various types of sweets .

various styles in different parts of Turkey. Turkish leather and textile products reflecting
the latest fashion are attracting the visitors of malls with reasonable prices. The origins
of jewellery go back to the neolithic age in Anatolia. Several designs have been created
combining the ancient styles with those of the future. Silver and gold jewellery with
precious stones are most popular items of shopping in Turkey.
